The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB) spearheads the national celebration of IDBD in the country.

·

The United Nations proclaimed May 22 of every year as the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDBD) to promote awareness on the significance of biodiversity conservation and to commemorate the adoption of Biological Diversity on May 22, 1992. The Philippines, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB) spearheads the national celebration of IDBD in the country.

This year’s theme, “Harmony with nature and sustainable development,” seeks to focus the world’s attention on the linkages between the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Goals and Targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). It highlights the importance of societies’ relationship with nature and how sustainable development goals can be achieved through a whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach. The theme continues to drumbeat the 23 targets of the KMGBF which are targeted to be realized in 2030.

The national celebration of the IDBD 2025 will highlight the importance of engaging in biodiversity conservation through visual media which includes films and YouTube content on Philippine biodiversity. The IDBD 2025 national celebration will be in collaboration with the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, Inc. and the SM Malls.
